Teamfight Tactics has 10 ranked tiers and 31 rank steps, from Iron IV to Challenger.
In this article8 sections
Teamfight Tactics has 10 ranked tiers. In order from lowest to highest they are Iron, Bronze, Silver, Gold, Platinum, Emerald, Diamond, Master, Grandmaster and Challenger. The first seven tiers have four divisions each (IV, III, II and I, with I the highest), while Master, Grandmaster and Challenger have none, which makes 31 rank steps in total.
This guide lists every TFT rank in order and explains how ranked works: placements, LP, demotion, decay at the top, party rules and the set reset. The rules come from Riot's TFT ranked FAQ and patch notes, checked in October 2026 during Set 18.

How many ranks are there in TFT?
There are 10 tiers and 31 rank steps: seven tiers with four divisions (28 steps) plus Master, Grandmaster and Challenger. New players are unranked until they finish their placement games.
What is the highest rank in TFT?
Challenger is the highest rank, followed by Grandmaster and Master. These three apex tiers have no divisions; players in them are ordered by LP instead. Diamond I is the highest rank with divisions.
How TFT ranked works
Placement games
- There is no account level requirement for ranked TFT.
- Your first 5 ranked games are placements. You start from a provisional rank of Iron II, gain LP faster than usual and do not lose LP during these games.
LP and promotion
You promote to the next division at 100 LP. There are no promotion series, so reaching 100 LP is enough. How much LP a game gives depends on your placement in the lobby of eight: a top 4 finish never costs LP, and a 5th to 8th place finish never gives LP.
Demotion
You can drop a division when you lose a game at 0 LP, but from Iron to Master you cannot drop out of a tier. A Gold IV player at 0 LP stays in Gold.
Decay in Master and above
Master, Grandmaster and Challenger players bank up to 14 games of inactivity protection. Once the bank is empty, LP decays every day: 50 LP in Master, 150 LP in Grandmaster and 250 LP in Challenger. Decay does not drop you below Master.
Playing ranked with friends
- Below Master you can queue in a party of up to 3, with tier limits: Iron to Silver players can invite Iron to Gold, Gold players can invite Iron to Platinum, and Platinum to Diamond players can invite one tier up or down.
- In Master and above, only duos are allowed, and both players must be within 400 LP of each other.
Double Up
Double Up, the two-player team mode, has its own separate ladder. A top 2 team finish never loses LP.
Sets and the rank reset
Ranked seasons follow TFT sets: Riot releases about three sets a year, so each season lasts around four months. Set 18, Enchanted Wilds, started with patch 18.1 on August 25, 2026. When a new set starts, ranks go through a soft reset, which means your hidden matchmaking rating is pulled back toward the average and you play placements again.

Ranked rewards
Reaching Gold or higher by the end of a set earns that set's Victorious tactician. Check the in-game ranked panel for the full reward list of the current set.
TFT rank distribution
Riot does not publish an official TFT rank distribution. Third-party trackers do, but they only see the players they track. Their Set 17 figures put most players in Silver, Gold and Platinum, with Gold the single largest group at roughly a quarter of ranked players, and Master and above a small minority. Treat any exact percentage as an estimate for that moment, and expect the picture to shift right after a set reset.
How to climb in TFT
- Aim for top 4 first. A top 4 finish never costs LP, so a steady 3rd or 4th is worth more over a session than gambling for 1st and going 8th.
- Learn two or three comps per set. Knowing when to commit to each one, and when to pivot, matters more than chasing the strongest comp every game.
- Manage gold and levels. Interest, when to roll and when to level decide most mid-game outcomes.
- Read patch notes. Balance changes between patches move which comps and augments are worth playing.
