What is Lethality in League of Legends?
Lethality is a key stat in League of Legends, introduced in 2017 to replace the older flat armor penetration system. Unlike its predecessor that provided a percentage-based reduction, Lethality offers a fixed amount of armor penetration, which is simpler but still impactful. This stat is featured on several items such as Duskblade of Draktharr, Eclipse, and Prowler’s Claw.
Additionally, Lethality also plays a significant role in the abilities of certain champions, such as Senna, Aphelios, and Pyke, enhancing their effectiveness against armored foes. It is particularly beneficial for Attack Damage champions aiming to pierce through the armor of their adversaries.
How is Lethality Calculated?
Flat Armor Penetration = Lethality × (0.6 + 0.4 × (level ÷ 18))
This formula ensures that Lethality provides 60% of its value at level 1 and scales up to 100% by level 18.
Best Lethality Items
Duskblade of Draktharr - Grants 60 AD, 20 Ability Haste, and 18 Lethality. Provides invisibility on takedown, making it ideal for assassins like Zed.
Eclipse - Offers 55 AD, 8% Omnivamp, and 18 Lethality. Deals bonus health-based damage when hitting an enemy twice quickly.
The Collector - Provides 55 AD, 20% Critical Strike Chance, and 12 Lethality. Executes enemies below 5% HP and grants bonus gold.
When to Buy Lethality?
Lethality is most effective against squishy champions such as ADCs and mages. It is best used in early-game aggressive strategies. Against tanks stacking armor, Armor Penetration items like Lord Dominik’s Regards may be preferable.
Difference Between Lethality and Armor Penetration
• Armor Penetration: Reduces a percentage of enemy armor, making it effective against high-armor targets.
• Lethality: Provides a flat reduction in armor, making it ideal against low-armor targets.
