CS2 Ranks Explained: Competitive Ranks, Premier CS Rating and FACEIT Levels
CS2 has three ranking systems: Competitive skill groups, the Premier CS Rating and FACEIT levels.
In this article7 sections
Counter-Strike 2 has three ranking systems. Competitive uses the 18 classic skill groups, from Silver I to The Global Elite, and gives you a separate rank on every map. Premier replaces skill groups with a single number, the CS Rating, shown in coloured bands from grey to gold. FACEIT, a separate platform, uses levels 1 to 10 based on Elo.
This guide lists every CS2 rank in order and explains how each system works, based on Valve's release notes and FACEIT's help center.

How Competitive ranks work
- Every map has its own rank. You can be Gold Nova on one map and Master Guardian on another.
- A map's skill group is revealed after 2 wins on that map (Valve, June 2024).
- In January 2026 Valve recalibrated the underlying per-map values and expired existing per-map skill groups; they come back once you win the required matches again.
CS2 Premier ranks: CS Rating explained
Premier is CS2's pick-and-ban mode on the Active Duty map pool. Instead of skill groups it shows a CS Rating, a visible measure of your performance that also places you on global and regional leaderboards. The rating is shown in colour bands:
| Colour | CS Rating |
|---|---|
| Grey | below 5,000 |
| Light blue | 5,000 – 9,999 |
| Blue | 10,000 – 14,999 |
| Purple | 15,000 – 19,999 |
| Pink | 20,000 – 24,999 |
| Red | 25,000 – 29,999 |
| Gold | 30,000 and above |
Valve does not publish this table; these are the bands as shown in game and listed by community sites, and a few sites draw the edges slightly differently.
- Placement: your rating appears after you win enough Premier matches. Valve does not state the number; it is widely reported as 10 wins.
- Seasons: Premier runs in seasons. Season Five began on July 8, 2026. At the end of a season you earn a medal in the colour of the highest CS Rating you reached, if you have at least 25 Premier wins, an active rating and an account in good standing.
- Parties: players with a very high CS Rating can't party with accounts that have no established rating, and Valve limits the rating range that can queue together (the exact range is not published).
- Prime required: Premier, skill groups and CS Rating are only available with Prime Status.
FACEIT levels and Elo
FACEIT is a third-party platform with its own matchmaking. Your Elo decides your level:
| FACEIT level | Elo |
|---|---|
| Level 1 | 100 – 500 |
| Level 2 | 501 – 750 |
| Level 3 | 751 – 900 |
| Level 4 | 901 – 1,050 |
| Level 5 | 1,051 – 1,200 |
| Level 6 | 1,201 – 1,350 |
| Level 7 | 1,351 – 1,530 |
| Level 8 | 1,531 – 1,750 |
| Level 9 | 1,751 – 2,000 |
| Level 10 | 2,001 and above |
Source: FACEIT help center, CS2 Elo and skill levels (October 2026). Above Level 10, Challenger marks the top 1,000 players by Elo; you lose it if you drop out of the top 1,000 and can earn it back.

Which CS2 rank system should you care about?
- Premier is the main ranked mode and the one with leaderboards and season medals.
- Competitive lets you play one map at a time, so it is where you build a rank on your favourite maps.
- FACEIT is a separate platform with its own client, anti-cheat and ladder. A FACEIT level does not change your Premier rating, and the other way round.
CS2 rank distribution
Valve does not publish rank or rating distributions. Third-party trackers only see the players who use them, and their numbers disagree a lot, so we don't repeat them here. Community snapshots agree on the overall shape: most rated Premier players sit in the light blue and blue bands, and red and gold are a very small minority.
How to climb in CS2
- Learn two or three maps well. In Competitive every map is ranked on its own, and in Premier you can ban the maps you are weakest on.
- Play with a regular team. Communication and set utility win more rounds than aim alone.
- Review your demos. Repeated deaths in the same spots are the quickest rating to win back.
