Unexpected Glitch: Yuumi Players Wrongly Tagged as AFK in Latest Update

League of Legends recently updated its AFK detection system, intending to penalize players who go idle or leave matches. However, this well-meaning tweak has mistakenly targeted an unlikely victim—Yuumi, the cat-like support champion known for latching onto allies. Let’s dive into what’s happening and how Yuumi mains can avoid unwarranted AFK penalties.

What’s the Issue?

Yuumi’s unique mechanic involves attaching herself to teammates for extended periods, which appears to be triggering the game’s new AFK detection. According to popular League of Legends YouTuber Vandiril, once Yuumi attaches to an ally, the system starts a 90-second inactivity countdown. At the end of this timer, the game incorrectly flags Yuumi as AFK.

In practical terms, that means Yuumi’s presence on an ally can prompt the system to suggest a remake of the match, and if the remake happens, Yuumi players lose LP (League Points) for an AFK penalty they didn’t deserve.

Why Yuumi?

Yuumi’s entire playstyle revolves around being attached to a teammate. She offers buffs, healing, and mobility while in her attached state. Unfortunately, the new AFK system appears to interpret her lengthy attachment as inactivity, marking her as absent—even though she’s actively participating in the game by healing and empowering allies.

Temporary Workaround

For now, Yuumi players should detach periodically, moving or reattaching to reset the AFK timer. While it’s not ideal and may disrupt her optimal gameplay, this extra step helps avoid the mistaken AFK flag. It’s a small inconvenience, but it beats losing LP and risking penalties for doing your job as a support.

Riot’s Response

As of now, Riot Games has yet to issue an official fix or statement acknowledging the glitch. The League community awaits a prompt solution, hoping for an AFK system update that recognizes Yuumi’s unique mechanics and exempts them from being considered “inactive.”

Looking Ahead

This incident with Yuumi highlights how even well-intentioned updates can produce unintended consequences. Until Riot implements a patch, Yuumi mains should stay mindful of their AFK timers by frequently detaching and reattaching.
