LoL Ranks in Order (2026): All 31 League of Legends Ranks Explained

League of Legends ranked has 10 tiers. In order from lowest to highest they are Iron, Bronze, Silver, Gold, Platinum, Emerald, Diamond, Master, Grandmaster and Challenger. Iron to Diamond each have four divisions (IV, III, II and I, with I the highest); Master, Grandmaster and Challenger have none, which makes 31 ranks in total. The most common tier is Gold, and Challenger is limited to a few hundred players per region.

This guide lists every rank in order and explains how LP, placements, the apex tiers, duo restrictions and the yearly reset work, based on Riot's support articles and 2026 patch notes.

Shares are a census of North America Solo/Duo players taken from Riot's API (nerfplz, August 2026). Riot does not publish an official distribution, and other regions differ a little, so treat them as estimates. Grandmaster and Challenger are fixed numbers of players (see below), a tiny fraction of a percent.

How many ranks are there in League of Legends?

There are 10 tiers and 31 ranks: seven tiers with four divisions (28 ranks) plus Master, Grandmaster and Challenger. Before your placements you are unranked.

LP, promotion and demotion

• You earn and lose League Points (LP) with every ranked game. At 100 LP you move up a division, and extra LP carries over. 100 LP in division I takes you to the next tier.
• Riot's current support pages describe no promotion series: reaching 100 LP is enough.
• Dropping below 0 LP moves you down a division. When you fall to a lower tier you land at 25, 50 or 75 LP, depending on how far below that tier your hidden MMR is.
• When you first reach Master you are protected from demotion for 3 games.

How much LP you gain or lose depends on your hidden MMR compared with your visible rank. If your MMR is higher, wins pay more than losses cost. You can get an estimate with our free LoL MMR checker, and our guide to League Points goes into LP in more detail.

Master, Grandmaster and Challenger

The three apex tiers have no divisions and no LP ceiling. Master is open to everyone who gets there. Grandmaster and Challenger are leaderboards with a fixed number of spots per region, recalculated once a day:

• Grandmaster needs at least 400 LP and more LP than the lowest Grandmaster player in your region.
• Challenger needs at least 800 LP and more LP than the lowest Challenger player in your region.

Rank decay

Only Diamond and above decay when you stop playing ranked. Each game banks days of protection:

• Diamond: 7 days per game, up to 28 days banked. Each decay costs 50 LP.
• Master and above: 1 day per game, up to 14 days banked. Each decay costs 75 LP, and apex players who decay fall to Diamond II.

Unlocking ranked and placements

• To play ranked you need summoner level 30, at least 20 champions and 10 Swiftplay or Normal Draft games (Riot support, May 2026).
• Each queue starts with 5 placement games, and a placement loss costs no LP.
• Riot's support pages say placements can't put you above Diamond III, and that at the start of a new ranked year you start no higher than Emerald I.

Ranked seasons and the yearly reset

A ranked year has 3 seasons, starting around January, April and August. In 2026, Season 2 started on April 29 and Season 3 on July 29. Your rank carries over from one season to the next and is only reset at the start of a new year, when most players start about one tier below where they finished.

Ranked rewards

To earn the season's Victorious skin you need 15 ranked wins in the season (Solo/Duo and Flex both count) and Honor level 3 or higher. You also get a chroma matching your final rank. Riot's page lists no minimum rank for the skin.

What changed in ranked in 2026

• Aegis of Valor: since patch 26.15, autofilled players earn double LP on wins.
• Autofilled players are matched against other autofilled players first.
• A Climb Indicator shows when your visible rank is behind your MMR.
• Flex MMR is pulled toward your Solo/Duo rank, but Flex never pulls your Solo/Duo rank up.
• Dodging at Master and above counts as a full loss.

How to climb in League of Legends

• Play a small champion pool. Two or three champions per role you know well beat a wide pool you know a little.
• Focus on one role. Fewer autofills and more practice in the same matchups.
• Review your games. Deaths before objectives and missed farm are the fastest LP to win back. LoL coaching pairs you with a high-Elo coach who reviews your games with you.
