New Mastery Emotes
What is the League of Legends Champion Mastery System?
Back in the day (Season 5, to be exact), Champion Mastery was released by Riot as a way of letting you flex your skills on a specific champ. It was a simple system: farm your champion mastery points, throw in a couple of flashy plays, and voilà – you'd get a cool emote to show off in-game. The problem was that players found it too easy for the one-trick ponies to get champions masteries, and players who are more versatile felt left out and unrewarded for their efforts.
Now, with Season 14 on the horizon, Riot is shaking things up by introducing the "Marks of Mastery." Instead of grinding for tokens, you earn these marks instead. Keep with your favorite champion and you’ll earn these marks from a fresh reward track that resets every split.
Levels aren't capped anymore. You can blast past level 7, but it's not a free ride. You always need more Marks to boost your League of Legends Champion Mastery level, and they don't grow on trees. After level 10, you will need to double your marks for each level up – so for example, if you’re aiming to reach level 10, you will need 20 total marks, and so on.
So, you won’t need any marks from levels 1-4, from levels 5-9 you need 1 per level and beyond level 10 you need 2 per level.
What will happen to my current Mastery Levels?
There’s no need to be worried about your Level 7 badge on your main champ, Riot is not resetting anyone’s masteries. When the new system kicks in, your hard-earned levels will be converted to the new system.
Even if you have Level 7 with a few hundred thousand extra points, you get bonus Marks based on that extra score – a nice treat for all your dedication to your favorite champs.
With levels uncapped, Riot thought the emotes needed a facelift too so they’re releasing an upgrade to the crests you get when you level up your Champion Mastery. Not only are there new crests for levels 8 and beyond, but the old ones are getting a makeover too.
What is the Split Mastery System?
With the start of Season 14, every champion gets a 4-milestone reward track that resets with each split, much like the ranked split milestone rewards. Play your favorite champion, get a couple of pentas, and hit those milestones to boost your milestone progress. After you reach the final milestone, you unlock a new, repeatable, bonus milestone. This achievement will also unlock a champion specific Title that you can use during the rest of the Split.
Season 14 Mastery Milestones
Oh, and there's something for the more versatile players out there too. Riot's rolling out a "Mastery Set" of champs that restarts each split. Pick your champs, hit those milestones, and earn rewards for the whole set using any of the champions to unlock a super-charged mastery chest.
So, get ready to level up your main, catch up on the Marks of Mastery, and show off in the Season 14 reworked Summoner’s Rift. Stay tuned for more League of Legends news!
